The Lamp Is Lit
My wife and I are making more business plans and finally putting attention towards developing our overdue websites. I'd always envisioned building a section of within mine to write about "a few of my favorite things," but with my different interests and random subjects I'm likely to write about, setting up a blog seemed like the easiest to maintain and develop.
I do this accepting the knee-jerk criticisims for anyone starting a blog. I don't particularly care that noone but my immediate friends might see this. I'm not setting up the blog as a money maker. I'm doing this as a forum for my writing and thoughts. Nothing more.
One of the earliest stories my father told me was of Diogenes, the Greek cynic philosopher known for searching in the daylight with a lantern for an honest man. While Diogenes likely did not find that man, his methods helped reveal many of man's selfish and vain tendancies.
I always wanted to be that elusive honest man, but alas I'm flawed and human just like everyone else. The idea of the lantern that searched for truth stayed with me, but with my boyhood focus on comic book superheroes I imagined that Diogenes' challenge was being fought with a power ring and alien energy instead of a cynic with an oil lamp - but that made the challege no less meaningful. The selfish and the vain were still exposed by the light of the lantern.
My goal with "Lantern's Light" is to shed my light over things that I think need a little more focus. Maybe it's something I'm interested in. Maybe I'm just curious. Maybe I just need to shout from my soapbox.
Enough warmup. I've said my oath and charged my ring. Let's go shed some light.
